JOB DESCRIPTION - CAREGIVER
A trained caregiver must meet all the criteria of the Policies and Procedures manual. In addition the trained caregiver may be asked to act as manager when the manager is not on the premises. As acting manager, the trained caregiver may be responsible for such management duties, as the manager shall specify.
The trained caregiver's primary responsibility is to provide care for residents, food service, and home maintenance, and to take certain management responsibilities when the manager is not on the premises or not on duty.
The trained caregiver's duties include:
- Providing all personal and custodial care of residents as set forth in their care plans.
- Assisting residents with the activities of daily living, including hygiene, mobility, hydration, meals and between meal nourishment and toileting.
- Assisting residents with colostomy, catheter and incontinence care.
- Observing residents throughout the work period, and immediately reporting any behavior which is not normal for a resident, or if a home manager or owner cannot be reached, to the resident's physician or a responsible licensed health care professional.
- Checking resident's vital signs on a regular basis, or as called for in the care plan and record the results.
- Documenting resident records.
- Preparing meals according to planned menus, serve and clean up.
- Doing housekeeping and maintenance tasks.
- Orienting new residents to emergency procedures, home rules and resident rights.
- Evacuating residents in a safe and timely manner during fire drills and actual emergencies.
- Notifying the manager of any needs of the residents or any need for household supplies or food.
- This position may require standing for up to eight hours, squatting, bending, lifting and assisting residents with ambulating and transfer.
- This position requires that the employee be capable of transferring clients from a prone position to a standing position or into a chair or wheelchair without assistance.
