One thing I have always been sure of in life is that you never know just what the future holds. Fortunately for me, in 2000 I met two people who would drastically affect my future. They strongly encouraged me to visit the adult care homes and to try working as a caregiver. This being a field I had no experience in, I was quite apprehensive about the idea. Needless to say, after spending one day at the house my apprehensions were a thing of the past. Since then I have known that my future would include providing care to these individuals. I come to work every day with intentions to give our residents the best care I possibly can. I give them the respect and dignity that I know they deserve, make them laugh, learn from them and about them. I strive to be patient, understanding, supportive, and compassionate to each individual and their family. I believe it is important to educate myself and my staff continually in order to maintain the necessary skills it requires to provide the best quality of adult care. It is also important to the residents and the staff to have a positive atmosphere, to realize that every day is a learning experience and accept that every day will be different. I enjoy what I do, it is so fullfilling and rewarding in a way that words cannot describe. I can honestly and whole-heartedly say that I love what I do and for that I am grateful. -Mandi |
